Regarding: The attitude of the prefects

I'm here to share with you the comments given by your excos and deputies

First of all, I should say that all of you (Or at least, most of you) have been performing well in terms of having your ties up the whole day. I know it has been especially hard on the seniors as all of you are used to wearing ties only during morning duty & recess duty. However, please understand that it was not out of fun that we want all of you to do it & the reasons are:

1. Prefects not wearing their tie when they do not have duty has been one of the problems in the prefectorial board. Despite numerous reminders, most of you are just plain ignorant.

2. To minimise the prefects from using "not bringing their tie" as an excuse to skip their duty.

3. Now that the students are allow to wear black shoes, wearing tie is one way to differentiate you all from the non-prefects.

However, at the same time, there are also the positive impact on the new system:

1. Many of you have proven to us that you know how to listen to instructions
2. Teachers are aware of the prefects in their class by the tie
3. The problems of not wearing tie has greatly been reduced.
4. The prefects are doing their jpbs more efficiently.

Despite your performance, there are still some flaws in the attitude you are carrying while doing duty.

Your leaders, at the same time, are also your excos. Which means they are of a higher authority than you are, therefore, we expect all of you to show the excos some level of respect. After all, they are working very hard, trying to find their members to do duty, hoping to improve the standard of the prefectorial board. I suggest before you start climbing up onto the exco's head, put yourself into their shoes and ask yourself, if you were treated like how you treated them by other prefects, how would you feel?

As a prefect, a role model of the school, it is expected that you "uphold the discipline and name of North View Secondary School". However, allowing your friends to sneak sweet drinks or anything that breaks the school rule is not helping to uphold the discipline. Imagine this, once you allow your friend for the first time, they will do it again and again. How do you gain respect from them this way? Without respect, do you think they will still listen to you? Without respect, do you think you will be enjoying the duty that you are doing? NO.

Last but not the least, there is no excuse for the prefects to say they don't know their duty. Duty list is up on the board as well as the blog. The leaders and the assist. leaders have no responsibility to help you remember YOUR duty. It is your initiative to check out the board or the blog. After your duty, you are to go back to your class for the next lesson. There is no point to loiter around since you will still go back to class.

These points are what most of the excos touched on. Please PLEASE do not take this to dampened your enthusiasm in your duty. The reason i am spending my time here writing these to you is to remind you that it's time to buck up now!!

Angela.
